Schlossküche
Schlossküche stands within Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, Germany, as part of the palace’s eastern wing. The kitchen served the royal court.
Friedrich Wilhelm IV expanded the palace after choosing Sanssouci as his summer residence in 1840. The eastern wing contained a bakery, coffee kitchen, silver chamber and pantry. Cellar rooms added storage, a dishwashing kitchen, confectionery and an ice preparation room. Staff lived on the upper floor, while the wine cellar continued from Frederick the Great’s time.
A mid-nineteenth-century cooking machine allowed cooks to prepare food without an open fire. Copper pots, pans, pudding moulds, ice moulds, ladles, roasters and baking sheets remain on display. Sanssouci Park surrounds the kitchen with gardens, the New Palace, the Orangery Palace and the Chinese House.
