Schloßküche
Schloßküche stands in Potsdam’s Neuer Garten as a late-eighteenth-century kitchen built for the nearby Marmorpalais. Its temple-ruin form gives the small building the appearance of an ancient Roman structure.
Carl Gotthard Langhans designed the building, constructed between 1788 and 1790 with Corinthian columns. An underground tunnel connected the kitchen with the palace, allowing meals to reach its dining rooms while keeping fire and cooking smells away from the royal residence.
The restored structure offers a striking glimpse of how practical service spaces shaped life around a neoclassical palace.
