Ringelspiel
Ringelspiel is a Vienna wine made by Jutta Ambrositsch from old vines in the city’s northern hills. You would picture vineyards woven into Vienna’s urban landscape, alongside paths and green spaces used for walks and picnics.
Wiener Gemischter Satz brings several grape varieties together in one vineyard, then harvests and ferments them together. Known varieties include Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, Neuburger, Gelber Traminer, and Roter Veltliner. Some older vines contain varieties nobody can identify today, adding further diversity to the blend. This traditional planting helps protect harvests when weather or disease harms one grape variety.
Vienna’s cool breezes from the Vienna Woods and the Danube balance warm summers across protected vineyards. In 2013, Wiener Gemischter Satz received DAC recognition, an unusual distinction for a wine style. Some vines used by Ambrositsch date to 1952, giving this fresh wine a direct connection with Vienna’s living wine culture.
