Johannes-Prassek-Park
Johannes-Prassek-Park is a two-hectare green space in Barmbek-Süd, Hamburg, created on a former gasworks site. The Osterbek Canal borders its northern edge, while Weidestraße marks the southern boundary. A green corridor links Barmbek-Süd with Hamburg Stadtpark through this urban setting.
A four-metre-wide path forms the main axis through the roughly 300-metre-long grounds. A plaza-like area occupies the south, and smaller play and sports areas fill the middle. The northern end opens into a broad meadow with sunny lawns, mature trees, and shaded woodland. Old trees shelter a picnic area, while the playground and sports facilities offer space for different age groups.
Hamburg inaugurated the park in June 2011 after plans had emerged as compensation for the nearby AlsterCity development. Johannes Prassek was born in Barmbek in 1911 and became a Catholic priest who resisted Nazi rule. The Heinz-Gärtner-Brücke has crossed the Osterbek Canal since 2013, connecting the northern park entrance with Winterhuder Jarrestadt.
