Colonna di San Teodoro
Colonna di San Teodoro, Venedik’teki Piazzetta’da, San Marco Meydanı’nın yanında yükselen taş sütunlardan biridir. Tepesinde, mızrak taşıyan ve ayaklarının dibinde timsah bulunan Theodor Tiron heykelini görürsün. Piazzetta, denizden gelenler için tarih boyunca kentin girişlerinden biri sayılmıştır. Bu sütun, Venedik’in San Marco’dan önceki koruyucu azizine adanmıştır.
İki sütunun 1172 ile 1177 arasında, doç Sebastiano Ziani döneminde Nicolò Barattieri tarafından dikildiği düşünülür. Başka bir görüş, yapım tarihini yaklaşık 1268’e yerleştirir. Taş gövde, Orta Çağ Venedik mimarisinin sade çizgilerini taşırken heykel, savaşçı aziz tasviriyle dikkat çeker. Çevredeki alan yüzyıllar boyunca pazarlar, kutlamalar ve kamusal törenlere sahne olmuştur. Canaletto gibi sanatçılar, kıyıdaki bu sütunları Venedik resimlerinde ve çizimlerinde sıkça göstermiştir. Diğer sütunun tepesindeki kanatlı San Marco aslanı, bu eski dini geçmişi bugün hâlâ gözlerinin önünde tamamlar.
