1-sonli shahar qabristoni (Botkin ko'chasida)
The 1-sonli shahar qabristoni is a cemetery in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, established in 1872. It is also called Botkin Cemetery or Russian Cemetery Number One.
The grounds reflect the history of Russian, Ukrainian, Belarusian, and other Christian communities in Uzbekistan. Trees give parts of the cemetery a park-like setting. Saint Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Church stands here, with neo-Russian architecture and a consecration dating from 1904. Nikolai Ivanov donated the land and lies beside the church.
The cemetery followed the closure of a military hospital cemetery, and its original sections included Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish graves. Those sections have mostly disappeared through limited maintenance. Gravestones connect the site with figures including writer Abdulla Abloni, botanist Zinaida Botchantseva, and archaeologist Vasily Shishkin. Oliver Golden and Sidney Jackson are buried here. The adjoining Communist Cemetery contains burials made without religious or ethnic distinctions during the Soviet period. Together, the grounds preserve layers of Tashkent history.
