St. Elisabeth
St. Elisabeth stands in Stuttgart-West as a Catholic church with neo-Romanesque architecture. Josef Cades designed the cross-shaped basilica, drawing inspiration from Maria Laach Abbey.
A tower rises at the southeast corner, between the choir and the transept. Several renovations have preserved the structure and adapted it to changing liturgical needs. The church’s Rieger organ dates from 1957 and replaced a Weigle instrument destroyed in 1944. Its design and sound incorporate elements from Italian and Spanish Baroque organs.
The organ remains one of the few large instruments of its kind still in existence. Choral groups, youth services, family programmes, kindergartens and a family centre connect the building with Stuttgart-West’s community life.
