Bildstock am Lohweg
The Bildstock am Lohweg is an eighteenth-century wayside shrine in Ochsenfurt, built from sandstone. A crucifix stands on its broad, solid pedestal.
Above the cross, the figure of the mourning Virgin Mary presents the traditional Mater Dolorosa. Sandstone gives this religious monument a distinctive carved presence.
The shrine belongs to southern Germany’s long Bildstock tradition, especially visible around Bavaria, Franconia, and Ochsenfurt. People placed such monuments beside paths, at crossroads, and near village edges.
