Gedächtniskapelle St. Emmeram
Gedächtniskapelle St. Emmeram stands in Munich’s Bogenhausen district as a protected chapel dedicated to Saint Emmeram of Regensburg. The owners of the nearby St. Emmeramsmühle built it in 1866 to commemorate a pilgrimage chapel demolished in 1820. Its single-nave longhouse ends in a southeast apse, while a roof turret rises above the modest structure. Coloured stained-glass windows brighten both sides of the chapel.
Inside, the main altar holds a statue of Saint Emmeram, flanked by Baroque angels. Two paintings from around 1650 show scenes from the saint’s legend and preserve the last remains of a sixteen-part cycle. A fallen tree severely damaged the chapel in 1988, yet careful restoration brought it back into use. The reopening took place with a festive service on 22 September 1991, Saint Emmeram’s feast day.
