Curio-Haus
Curio-Haus stands in Hamburg’s Rotherbaum district as a protected historic building with spacious rooms, high ceilings, and garden features. Johann Emil Schaudt and Walther Puritz designed it between 1908 and 1911 for the Society of Friends of Patriotic School and Education.
The building once housed the Vogt’sche Conservatory, later Hamburg’s School of Music and Theater, and hosted elaborate artists’ festivals during the 1920s. Its large hall survived the Second World War, then held British military courts from 1946 to 1948 for the Neuengamme and Ravensbrück trials. After serving as a university cafeteria until its restoration in 1997, it became a venue for concerts, conferences, and other events in 1998.
A memorial plaque recalls its confiscation in 1933 and the military trials that followed.
