Baluard de Sant Jordi
Baluard de Sant Jordi rises within the historic walls of Eivissa, also known as Ibiza Town, in Spain. You find it in Dalt Vila, the upper town of narrow streets, palaces and defensive structures. Projecting from the walls, this bastion once helped defenders cover more ground around the city.
The fortifications protected residents and important buildings from attack. Towers, gates, walls and several bastions formed a coordinated system around the upper town, where citizens built their homes and palaces. Careful restoration preserved the structure while improving its safety and accessibility.
Today, the stonework connects Eivissa’s living streets with its defensive past. As you look across the walls, the bastion shows how architecture once shaped the city’s protection.
