Hastings Garden

Hastings Garden occupies St John’s and St Michael’s bastions in Malta, placing green terraces above city streets and harbour waters. Stone walls surround flower beds, trees, and winding paths. From the elevated paths, Marsamxett Harbour opens towards Sliema and Manoel Island, with boats scattered across blue water.

A restored fountain catches sunlight among the greenery, while terraced routes lead you between benches and colourful planting. Lord Hastings, who governed Malta in the early 1800s, stands memorialised among the trees. The garden feels quieter than Malta’s better-known city parks, giving its belvederes a secluded atmosphere. High viewpoints bring the distant skyline, harbour, Sliema, and Manoel Island into one broad scene.

At sunset, golden light washes across the bastions, leaves, and limestone. The contrast between defensive walls and peaceful greenery stays with you.
