Sant'Alfonso Maria de' Liguori
Sant'Alfonso Maria de' Liguori rises among the low houses of Borgo Campidoglio in Italy, with a neo-baroque façade above the surrounding streets. Its large volume gives the neighbourhood a clear focal point. Wheelchair access makes the parish church easier to visit.
The church opened in 1898, and the parish marked 120 years of continuous community life in 2018. Theologian Domenico Bongioanni served as its first parish priest. Liturgy and prayer share these walls with music, formation, art and social care. Choirs, parish groups and the oratory continue that communal rhythm.
Each year, an artistic nativity brings neighbours together through craft and devotion. Restoration work on the roof and organ continued between 2022 and 2024. Look upward from the old-style streets and watch the façade frame the sky. Inside, the restored organ connects the building’s material history with the voices gathered there.
