Sacro Cuore di Maria

Sacro Cuore di Maria is a neo-Gothic parish church in Italy, with vertical lines, pointed openings, and a façade directed upwards. Pointed forms draw the eye above the urban block. Designed by architect Carlo Ceppi in the late nineteenth century, the church combines upward movement with a clear architectural rhythm. Stone and glass carry that architectural rhythm visibly.

The present building also reflects rebuilding after the bombings of the 1950s, placing older design intentions beside quieter post-war lines. An adjacent parish house supports its local setting. Beside it, an active oratory serves children and young people, while the parish shares programmes and spaces with Don Bosco San Salvario. This pastoral link began in December 2016.

Here, worship sits alongside catechesis, adult and family formation, and training for liturgy. Social care also has a visible place here. A listening desk and a Caritas centre support families and single people facing precarious situations. Look closely at the rebuilt fabric here. It holds a concrete dialogue between nineteenth-century verticality and the human scale of post-war repair.
