Chiesa della Madonna del Pilone stands as a compact Baroque church in a suburban setting, shaped by devotion to a votive pillar near the river. Its construction began in 1645 after a girl survived the waters, an event the local community remembered as miraculous. The earlier pilone, established in 1587, gave the sanctuary both its name and its purpose.
Later generations enlarged the building, added a baptistery in 1807, and completed a substantial reworking in 1817. Early eighteenth-century fresco cycles fill the interior with devotional scenes and layered colour, giving the small parish church its intimate character. Bombing on 13 July 1943 damaged parts of the roof and cracked the masonry, while partial repairs followed by September 1945.
