Schloss Kilchberg
Schloss Kilchberg stands in Germany as a private castle with a fortress-like silhouette. Its stone walls surround traces of a medieval stronghold, later reshaped into an elegant residence.
Around 1200, builders created a water castle with a rare octagonal moat on these flatlands. Georg von Ehingen raised the stone manor over Staufer foundations in the late fifteenth century. Sixteenth-, seventeenth-, and eighteenth-century additions expanded the complex, while a baroque garden and orangerie brought refinement.
The Ehinger family eventually gave way to several owners, including the barons of Tessin. You can view the exterior, but only the orangerie hosts private events.
