Prestvatn landskapsvernområde

Prestvatn landskapsvernområde is a protected wetland in Norway, centred on a small lake and adjoining bogs. Open water, floating peat hummocks, reed beds and birch woodland shape the shoreline. A compact loop follows the water, crossing simple boardwalks and passing jetties, benches and information panels. The calm setting feels close to everyday neighbourhood life.

Two small ponds were dammed in 1867 and once supplied drinking water. Since 1995, the landscape has protected nesting and feeding habitat for waterfowl and waders. In spring and early summer, gulls and terns circle above ducks moving between peat mats. A small loon often appears close to the shore. Parents with pushchairs, joggers, birdwatchers and school groups use the path throughout the year.

The southern shoreline closes seasonally, while dogs must stay on leads during breeding season. Motorised boats and vehicles are prohibited, and fires belong only in designated pits. In winter, frozen water sometimes becomes a local skating surface, with floating peat remaining the lake’s most memorable detail.
