St. Christophorus

St. Christophorus stands in Stuttgart’s Wangen district as a Catholic church with a tower and an evolving parish site. Local and Croatian Catholic communities continue to use the church.

The grounds are being reshaped with Caritas Stuttgart into a centre joining parish life, social support and employment. A residential building will provide assisted living for eighteen people with multiple disabilities. The homes occupy the former parish office and closed daycare site, with Caritas supporting independent living. A separate multi-storey building includes a basement garage, parish administration and Neckartal workshops. Nine Caritas-managed apartments, ranging from thirty-six to sixty-five square metres, occupy its upper floors.

The church remains beside these new facilities, keeping worship at the heart of the site. The former community hall gave way because its size and renovation costs no longer suited parish needs. Directly beneath the church, Kolping Hall remains available for choir rehearsals and parish council meetings. Together, the buildings connect familiar Catholic spaces with housing, work and support for people with multiple disabilities.
