Feuerwehrmuseum

The Feuerwehrmuseum occupies a former Assmann & Stockder factory building in Stuttgart’s Münster district, linking industrial space with fire-service history. Its displays trace firefighting from early methods to professional organisation. Old city plans and photographs show Stuttgart’s urban development and water-supply systems through the lens of fire protection. Wooden pipes and leather or hemp buckets reveal earlier equipment. Uniforms, helmets, medals, flags, alarms, and technical tools represent the work of different fire brigades. Horse-drawn engines preserve an earlier kind of response. Portable pumps and mobile ladder trailers extend the collection beyond vehicles used for city and rural firefighting. Bruno Jacoby receives a dedicated section. Motorised fire engines, turntable ladders, and special vehicles from Magirus-Deutz, Mercedes-Benz, and Opel appear in rotating displays on the ground floor. A small workshop shows the restoration of hand-operated pumps and historic equipment. Together, the gallery, vehicles, and workshop connect Stuttgart’s streets, water infrastructure, and firefighting technology across changing periods.
