Capilla del Sagrario

The Capilla del Sagrario is a Catholic parish church beside Seville Cathedral in Seville, Spain. Its Baroque stone exterior faces the Patio de los Naranjos and Avenida de la Constitución. Built between 1618 and 1662, the building occupies the former nave site of Nuestra Señora de la Granada. Four entrances connect it with the courtyard, cathedral, and city avenue.

Inside, a Latin-cross plan carries a dome and lantern above the crossing, while sculpted vault reliefs enrich the space. Pedro de Borja and his brothers created those reliefs. The main altarpiece presents Pedro Roldán’s Pietà, designed by Francisco Dionisio de Ribas and polychromed by Valdés Leal. The stone structure underwent major restorations during the 1960s and in 2017. Several religious brotherhoods are based here, including the Archicofradía Sacramental, founded in the sixteenth century. José de Arce’s statues show Church Fathers and Evangelists high on the walls. Eucharistic paintings by Matías de Arteaga and a 1606 Christ Child by Martínez Montañés provide especially vivid details.
