Historischer Rodenhof
The Historischer Rodenhof is an eighteenth-century agricultural estate in Saarbrücken, with Baroque architecture and a mansard roof. Prince Ludwig established the agricultural estate around 1765 for farming.
It first housed a princely forester before passing to the city of Malstatt-Burbach in 1793. The property changed owners during the nineteenth century.
Families including Thieriet and Kaiser lived at the estate during that period of repeated ownership changes. George Heckel became owner through his marriage to Marie Thieriet in 1872.
An inn operated on the premises by that time, and a farmer continued it after 1900. Eduard Sehmer added a bowling alley in 1925.
He also built Villa Sehmer in 1926, adding another architectural layer to the former agricultural estate. The inn and beer garden closed in 2006.
The building later stood vacant, while restoration efforts began in 2018 for a women’s counselling centre. Its symmetrical mansard windows and sandstone-framed doors preserve details of the building’s original Baroque character.
The building is the only surviving part of the original estate. It remains a protected historical monument in Saarbrücken.
