Čiekurkalna ūdenstornis
Čiekurkalns Water Tower stands in Riga, Latvia, as an early twentieth-century piece of utility architecture. Its elevated tank stored water above Čiekurkalns, allowing gravity to help supply nearby homes and businesses before modern pressure systems became widespread.
Photographs from the 1920s and 1930s place the tower firmly within Riga’s changing cityscape. One image even shows an airship crossing the sky above Riga with the tower visible below, revealing how clearly this practical structure marked the neighbourhood.
