Chalermphrakiat Road
Chalermphrakiat Road runs beside the waterfront, where the unfinished Waterfront Suites and Residence rises above the shoreline. Its fifty-three-storey concrete frame shows exposed slabs, open elevator shafts and rows of empty balconies.
Development began in 2004, construction started in 2011, and inspectors found deviations from approved fire escapes and elevator designs in 2014. The tower also blocked the sea view from the Abhakara Kiartivongse monument, adding a public dispute to the safety concerns. City officials ordered work to stop on 16 July 2014, while lawsuits, debt restructuring and bankruptcy followed.
A crane was removed from the roof on 10 September 2018, leaving the raw shell even more visible. Demolition proposals have faced legal cases, uncertain costs and disagreement between authorities. Look along the monument’s sightline: the stark tower changes the route’s open view towards the sea.
