Teatro i stands in Milan as a theatre for contemporary performance, artistic collaboration, and experimental storytelling. Its productions explore future possibilities through innovative approaches to the stage.
Renzo Martinelli and Federica Fracassi founded the theatre in 1995, when it began under the name Teatro Aperto. Milan entrusted it with a venue in 2004. That transition brought the name Teatro i and recognition within Milan’s cultural scene.
Francesca Garolla has shaped its artistic direction since 2005, working as a playwright and resident director. Her role links writing with staging. Since 2008, the theatre has received support through Milan’s convention system while hosting productions that challenge traditional theatre.
