Palazzo Anguissola
Palazzo Anguissola stands on Via Manzoni in central Milan, presenting a historic residence shaped by classical Greek and Roman ideas. Carlo Felice Soave designed its original form as an elegant aristocratic home between 1775 and 1778. Refined apartments, gold decoration, stucco, and plasterwork give the interiors their crafted character.
Giovanni Battista Traversi acquired the palace in 1817 and later commissioned Luigi Canonica to reshape the Via Manzoni façade. Palladian Corinthian pilasters and a grand staircase define Canonica’s intervention. A glass-covered courtyard brings together large granite Doric columns and later museum activity.
The building now forms part of Gallerie d’Italia, whose collections focus on Italian art from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In the courtyard, Arnaldo Pomodoro’s Disco in forma di rosa del deserto adds a striking modern presence to the classical setting.
