Casa Casati Magni
Casa Casati Magni stands at Via Dante 16 in Milan as a mixed-use building shaped by Neorenaissance design. Architect Antonio Tagliaferri and engineers Giovanni Battista Casati and Giulio Magni created its balanced façade. Completed in 1891, the building joined Via Dante’s urban development, which began after the street opened in 1888.
The Cassa Sovvenzioni commissioned the work for Milan’s municipal competition among buildings along the new street. Casa Casati Magni won third prize and received 10,000 lire for its architectural harmony. Its ground and mezzanine floors use stone, giving the lower façade a substantial base.
A rounded central portal carries sculptures representing Medicine and Industry beneath the noble floor’s balcony. Large brackets support that balcony, while triangular and broken pediments frame the principal windows. Higher levels use simpler windows, creating a restrained Renaissance rhythm across the façade. A major renovation in 2016 strengthened the building’s commercial role.
