Villa Freischütz
Villa Freischütz is a house museum in Meran, South Tyrol, built in 1909 in the Heimatschutzstil architectural style. Its park setting hides the villa from the nearby road.
Franz Fromm, a Prussian wine merchant, acquired the property in 1922 and filled the villa with art from around the world. His collection reflects his life there until 1941.
The first floor presents family life through exhibition rooms, a study, two drawing rooms, furniture, and everyday objects. Board games and household ledgers accompany artworks by Ellen Tornquist and Georg Greve Lindau.
High ceilings, terrazzo floors, Asian wallpaper, and furniture from different parts of the world shape the villa’s rooms. Rosamaria Navarini’s former rooms preserve later furniture, artworks, and everyday objects.
The garden of living silence surrounds Villa Freischütz with trees, shrubs, and a deliberately wild character. The collection, house, and garden connect private life with Meran’s cultural history and regional past.
