Utblick / Insikt
Utblick / Insikt stands at Posthusplatsen as a two-part stone sculpture beside the harbour. A black diabase slab frames the lighthouse, channel and sea through an elliptical opening.
Rough edges surround a burnished inner curve, making the distant water appear close within the stone. A clear echo answers when you call into its centre. Beside the opening, a low cylindrical block carries water across its polished surface, reflecting sky, buildings and anyone who leans near. The smooth rim invites children to lie against it and visitors to pause, look and listen.
Pål Svensson developed the work through years of stone carving, combining solid mass with emptiness, reflection and sound. The sculpture received recognition for its handling of stone and remains wheelchair accessible. Its most memorable detail is the moving silver film of water, where the harbour square becomes a shifting picture.
