Caroli kyrka
Caroli kyrka rises in Sweden with red brick walls, a mint-green metal roof, and a central tower topped by a Greek cross. The stone plinth and entrance portals preserve fragments of the earlier church.
Emil Viktor Langlet designed the symmetrical central church, funded by local citizens and opened in 1880. A wooden vault with glass cassettes once shaped the warm, resonant interior. The former German merchant congregation later became Swedish, and the earlier building gave way to this one. Between 2000 and 2009, a music academy filled the space with concerts.
The church was deconsecrated in 2010, while restoration repaired its roof, façade, windows, tower clock, and settled masonry. Strict cultural-heritage protection governs the building, and the Swedish Church safeguarded its altar, pulpit, and paintings. Memorial plaques honour local figures including Frans and Anna Suell, beside the worn stone near the entrance.
