Mercado Municipal Ciudad Jardín
Mercado Municipal Ciudad Jardín is a municipal market in Ciudad Jardín, Málaga, housed in a protected building. Whitewashed exterior walls frame its central façade. Three semicircular arcades give the front a distinctive rhythm from Spain’s autarky period.
The building follows a design by architect Luis Gutiérrez Mérida, created between 1950 and 1953. Construction lasted three years. The market opened on 18 July 1953, adding a postwar architectural landmark to the district. Its protected status reflects the building’s architectural and historical significance.
Today, 180 establishments fill about 10,000 square metres of commercial space. Málaga’s only self-managed market places daily operations in the hands of its merchants. Vendors, shoppers, and local residents meet here around the routines of commerce and neighbourhood life.
