Villa Toepffer
Villa Toepffer stands in Magdeburg’s Stadtfeld Ost district as a two-storey half-timbered residence with projections, bay windows, and a rear veranda. Orange-yellow bricks fill its timber-frame façade. Built between 1885 and 1891 for industrialist Richard Toepffer, the house reflects fortress rules requiring nearby buildings to be dismantled.
Rudolf Vogt designed it, while local builders Emil Jaehn and Heinrich Cornelius carried out construction. Those regulations disappeared with the fortress, leaving Magdeburg only a few surviving Rayon houses. Inside, stained-glass windows remain in the main hall, while a grand staircase rises towards an upper gallery beneath an open wooden roof.
A marble fireplace and figurative stair railing add distinctive detail to the interior. The original small roof towers have disappeared. After serving as a residence, a Masonic lodge, and offices, the listed monument now hosts events and lectures.
