Corpus Christi Catholic Church

Corpus Christi Catholic Church stands in Covent Garden, London, as a Roman Catholic place of worship and architectural interest. It serves as the Westminster Diocesan Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament.

Built in 1874, the church was established as an act of reparation for offences against the Blessed Sacrament during England’s Reformation. Cardinal Manning opened the church. Its life centres on Mass, confession, Eucharistic adoration, prayer, and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.

The church also holds a distinctive place in London’s performing arts community. It is known as the actors’ church for Catholic performers in Covent Garden and the West End. The Catholic Association for Performing Arts and the Catholic Police Guild have connections with this church.

Music forms another part of Corpus Christi’s story. Father Francis Stanfield composed Sweet Sacrament Divine and O Sacred Heart here. Monsignor Ronald Knox preached from the church’s pulpit on the Blessed Sacrament.
