Hombre y Jirafa

Hombre y Jirafa is an artwork by Carmela García, placed among the gardens. The work brings together a silver-toned woman and a tall giraffe. These sculptural presences stand apart while their poses create a theatrical exchange within the surrounding landscape. The giraffe recalls a figure from Bosch’s The Garden of Earthly Delights. That reference meets the woman’s poised presence, giving the scene the tension of a painted tableau in three dimensions.

Planeta Ella names the project that contains the work. García uses the pairing to examine presence, authority, and the stories attached to public space. The woman’s surface and posture suggest vulnerability alongside resolve. The giraffe carries a familiar image into a garden setting, where its height changes the scale of the encounter. Together, the sculptures form a deliberate conversation between body, symbol, and landscape.

The work was first shown at Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía before entering these gardens. Light changes the appearance of the sculptural surfaces. That changing surface keeps the tableau open to comparison between what you recognise and what stands before you.
