Exordio el Tritón

Exordio el Tritón rises at a coastal viewpoint on the city’s southern approach, presenting a bronze figure with a seaward presence. Manolo González created the sculpture from literary and mythological ideas. Its right arm points towards the city, while its left hand holds a conch associated with calming or raising waves. The conch gives the figure a ritual focus. González developed scale studies and a full-size Carrara marble model before the workshop transformed the design into bronze. Funcho Esculturas cast and assembled the final work. From close by, the conch appears intimate, while the extended arm becomes a directional marker from farther away. Each angle changes the sculpture’s visual reading. The seafront setting connects its sea messenger imagery with arrivals approaching the city by road. Bronze catches light across the figure’s long linear profile. The work brings together Las rosas de Hércules, classical mythology and modern foundry craft through two clear gestures. One hand points towards the city, and one hand holds the sea’s instrument.
