Casa Museo Pérez Galdós
Casa Museo Pérez Galdós preserves the childhood home of Benito Pérez Galdós in Spain, arranged around two shaded inner courtyards. Original materials and the traditional Canarian structure remain visible. Benito Pérez Galdós was born here on 10 May 1843 and lived here until leaving for the mainland in 1862. Light still moves through the rooms as it did during his childhood.
Furniture from Madrid and Santander stands beside his private library, documentary archive, drawing albums, manuscripts, photographs and musical instruments. Recreated rooms show his birthplace, his office in San Quintín, Santander, and his final room in Madrid. Joaquín Sorolla’s 1894 portrait presents the writer seated with a cigar, preserving a friendship also documented in their correspondence. Near the newer wing, Victorio Macho’s sea-damaged monument recalls its repeated journeys before finding shelter indoors.
