Maria von der Versöhnung
Maria von der Versöhnung stands within Schloss Pöring in northern Pitzling, a district of Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria. The castle combines original Gothic elements with nineteenth-century Neo-Gothic restoration.
The church was built between 1764 and 1766 after a fifteenth-century Marian statue drew pilgrims from 1731 onwards. Its late-Baroque interior contains stucco work by Dominikus Zimmermann, who also painted the murals himself. He simplified the design when the pilgrimage attracted fewer visitors, while the new building replaced a chapel that could no longer accommodate the crowds.
The statue, known as the Muttergottes auf dem Schifflein, remains the clearest link between the church and its pilgrimage history. Schloss Pöring reaches back to the ninth or tenth century, and the wider setting belongs to the religious landscape of the Pfaffenwinkel.
