Pauluskirche
Pauluskirche stands in Heidenheim an der Brenz as a neo-Gothic Protestant church built from red brick. Its cross-shaped plan and north-to-south orientation follow the Brenz valley. Sculpted stonework frames the building, while a tympanum relief by Hermann Lang and an Apostle Paul statue by Karl Federlin enrich the exterior. Wheelchair access makes the church easier to visit.
Felix von Berner directed construction between 1895 and 1898, creating Heidenheim’s largest church and main Protestant church. Services and concerts continue its architectural role with a strong musical tradition. The church belongs to the Heidenheim church district and stands within the Evangelical Gesamtkirchengemeinde Heidenheim. Helmut Bornefeld and Dörte Maria Packeiser rank among its notable music directors.
A Rieger organ installed in 1995 has forty registers for French symphonic organ music. Four bells bear the names Johannes, Matthäus, Lukas and Markus. Installed in 1949, they ring together with the Michaelskirche bells on the eves of major holidays.
