Sparkasse an der Goseriede
Sparkasse an der Goseriede stands in Hanover’s Mitte district as a business building from the early 1950s. Its central setting places post-war reconstruction within a historically significant part of the city. Ernst Zinsser designed the building after winning first prize in an architectural competition. Functional modernism shaped the design, reflecting rebuilding trends across Germany after World War Two.
The Stadtsparkasse built these premises as a branch during Hanover’s post-war rebuilding. The building occupies the site of the Striehlsche Orphan Foundation’s business house, which stood there from the late nineteenth century. Air raids on Hanover destroyed that earlier structure before the new building rose in the early 1950s. Protected monument status and wheelchair accessibility connect architectural heritage with practical public use.
