Kirchgarten

Kirchgarten is a green garden in Germany, with tall trees, open lawns, and paths beside St. Helena church. You find shade, grass, and space for gatherings beneath the branches. The garden hosts the St. Martin procession, beginning with a play in the church before lanterns lead people through the park. Stories of kindness and sharing give the celebration its meaning before the outdoor procession begins. A restored giant lantern guides the parade, while traditional pastries are shared in the fading light.

Beyond this festival, open-air concerts turn lawns and paths into a stage, with performances also taking place near the glasshouse. Music brings residents and guests together beneath the trees. New trees replace old or diseased ones, keeping the landscape cared for across generations. At dusk, hundreds of lanterns fill the garden with light behind the restored giant lantern.
