Naturpark Südschwarzwald

Naturpark Südschwarzwald is a vast nature park in Baden-Württemberg, extending across the southern Black Forest from Rhine foothills to the Baar plateau. Feldberg, Herzogenhorn and Belchen rise within its boundaries.

Valleys, ravines and waterways shape the terrain, including the Wutach ravine, Ravenna Gorge, and rivers such as the Alb and Wiese. The park also contains Schluchsee, Titisee and Feldsee.

Its position on the Rhine-Danube watershed links steep western river courses with gentler landscapes draining towards the Danube. Triberg and Todtnau feature prominent waterfalls in the landscape.

Forests, meadows and old pastures show how agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry have shaped this rural region. Old pasture beeches add a distinctive landscape detail.

Traditional Black Forest houses reflect local building practices, with forms suited to slopes, heavy snow and strong winds. Timber, mushrooms and mixed forests connect nature with regional work and knowledge.

The park's landscape also preserves traces of cultural traditions, including farm buildings, wood shingles and carved carnival masks. Rivers once carried timber towards the Rhine.
