Planetarium Freiburg
Planetarium Freiburg stands at the north end of Freiburg’s main railway station in South Baden. The planetarium is wheelchair accessible for visitors. Established in 1975, the planetarium later moved into the former Ufa-Palast cinema, where the current venue operates. The present location dates from December 2002 in Freiburg. South Baden’s largest planetarium presents astronomy beneath a thirteen-metre dome. Its curved screen covers 265 square metres for immersive astronomical presentations and shows. A 2013 renovation introduced a fulldome video projection system with JVC laser projection. The dome supports detailed views of space and astronomical subjects. A Zeiss Starmaster projector provides precise star projection within the dome. Shows explore the solar system and the wider universe. Family presentations bring astronomical subjects to younger audiences. Concerts and lectures also take place beneath projected stars. Adjustable-backrest seating supports relaxed viewing beneath the dome. The former cinema now frames astronomical shows in Freiburg’s railway district.
