Zum Tannenberge und grünen Löwen
Zum Tannenberge und grünen Löwen stood at Anger 33 in Erfurt, in the heart of the city. Otto von Bismarck lived there during his work in the Erfurt Union Parliament in 1850.
The original building disappeared around 1900, two years after Bismarck’s death. Bismarck Haus now occupies the site and preserves his connection with a stone statue at first-floor level. Nearby, the Augustinian Monastery hosted discussions about creating a smaller German Reich, though the parliament reached no agreement. Bismarck represented the conservative faction while enjoying Erfurt’s surroundings, hearty food and beer.
He later remembered the Felsenkeller beer he had tasted here, giving the political history a distinctly local detail.
