Friedenspulvermagazin V.
Friedenspulvermagazin V. stands on Ravelin Anselm, a separate fortification within Petersberg Citadel in Erfurt. Anselm occupies the main ditch of the citadel complex. Visitors see a military setting shaped during the fortress’s first development phase, between 1665 and 1702. The ravelin remains distinct from the citadel’s central fortress.
Built in 1822, the building stored gunpowder during peacetime outside the main fortress for safety. That distance reduced the danger of accidental explosions. From 1920, the rooms became a meeting place for the Good Templars, a temperance organisation. Later, they served as housing until the 1990s, leaving one small structure with military, social and residential histories.
