Christuskirche (SELK)
Christuskirche (SELK) stands in Erfurt’s Brühlervorstadt as a neoclassical church of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church. Max Brockert designed the building, completed between 1912 and 1913, with a 36-metre tower above its city setting.
Richard Oertwig reshaped the interior in 1938, creating the altar, pulpit, crucifix, baptismal font, and chandeliers. Four carved Evangelists support the altar, while twelve carved Apostles adorn the pulpit. The restored stained-glass windows returned in 2009, joining an organ built by Otto Petersilie in 1913 with about 1,300 pipes.
A small cross made from material taken from the former inner German border fence adds a distinctive detail to the church’s artworks.
