Diocesan Museum of Ibiza

Diocesan Museum of Ibiza occupies the cathedral’s sacristy and chapterhouse in Eivissa, placing religious art within a historic setting. You enter through the cathedral and reach the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. The anteroom presents objects with particular historical and artistic significance before the displays continue through liturgical spaces. A quiet sacrarium marks this first section as a place for silence and personal prayer.

The museum preserves church history from the thirteenth to the twentieth century through silverwork, goldwork, altarpieces, paintings, sculptures, and religious decorations. Its objects connect Ibiza and Formentera with centuries of worship, craftsmanship, and island life. The present arrangement followed a major renovation in the late 1990s and reopened in August 2006. Religious books and oil paintings from different schools add variety to the liturgical objects on display. Traditional Ibizan jewellery provides the most distinctive detail, especially local rosaries and wrought crosses shaped by island craftsmanship.
