Baluard de Sant Pere

Baluard de Sant Pere rises beside Queen Sofia Park within Dalt Vila, the fortified old town of Eivissa. Renaissance walls, thick defensive masonry, and the Crown of Aragon’s coat of arms define its appearance. Designed by Italian architect Giovanni Battista Calvi, the bastion preserves its original sixteenth-century layout within a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A stair-filled tunnel about fifty metres long and three metres high connects the park with Plaza del Sol. Inside, vaulted casemates hold audiovisual displays, construction models, and diagrams explaining how Eivissa’s ramparts were built. Sixteenth-century wooden entrance doors, ancient weapons, and other period objects show the practical history behind the stonework. The upper terrace opens across Ibiza, its city and surrounding landscape visible beyond the fortifications. Cultural events, including open-air concerts and occasional flamenco performances, bring music into this former defensive setting.

Portal Nou replaced the older dels Aiguaders entrance after the Renaissance walls were constructed. As one of Dalt Vila’s two principal gateways, the bastion still marks a historic route into the old city.
