Wilhelm-Marx-Haus
Wilhelm-Marx-Haus rises in central Düsseldorf, Germany, as a 57-metre high-rise with thirteen floors above ground. Completed in 1924, it ranked among Europe’s first skyscrapers.
Architect Wilhelm Kreis designed the structure during Düsseldorf’s programme of urban modernisation. Wilhelm Marx served as Düsseldorf’s mayor. The Düsseldorf Stock Exchange originally occupied these floors, tying the site to the city’s economic life.
Today, JuTA, the Junges Theater in der Altstadt, brings theatre, artistic performances and community events into the historic structure. Renovations in the 1990s helped preserve its structure. Thirteen floors rise above ground, giving central Düsseldorf a clear vertical marker of its architectural history.
