Tonhalle Düsseldorf
Tonhalle Düsseldorf is a concert hall in Düsseldorf, known for its architecture and prominent position beside the Rhine. Architect Wilhelm Kreis designed the building in 1926.
The structure first served as a planetarium for the GeSoLei exhibition before becoming a concert hall in the 1970s. Its blue dome creates an indoor starry sky.
The venue now serves as the home of the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, who perform a wide range of symphonic repertoire there. The orchestra also performs opera at Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
The programme includes international stars, a youth symphony orchestra, an under-sixteen orchestra, a children’s orchestra, and an audience orchestra. The building is wheelchair accessible to visitors.
The former planetarium remains a Düsseldorf cultural landmark, joining architecture, orchestral music, and the blue dome. Its history reaches from exhibition design to concert performance.
