St. Maria Rosenkranz
St. Maria Rosenkranz stands in Düsseldorf’s Wersten district as a Catholic parish church with wheelchair access. Its neo-Romanesque basilica follows architectural ideas from the Staufer period.
Wilhelm Sültenfuß designed the three-nave church, built between 1907 and 1910 with a transept and round apse. An integrated portal tower, early Gothic flying buttresses, and round-arched windows shape the exterior. Rosette bands decorate the façade, while double round-arched windows mark the tower. World War II severely damaged the building, and reconstruction continued until 1955. Hans Schwippert redesigned the interior during the 1950s after war losses erased late-expressionist windows and ceiling paintings by Hans Kohlschein.
Vietnamese Catholic services continue alongside parish life in Wersten. The church belongs to the pastoral unit Düsseldorfer Rheinbogen, which connects parishes in Düsseldorf’s southern districts. Its beginnings reach back to 1891, when worship took place in a converted boiler forge.
