Rank-Xerox-Haus
Rank-Xerox-Haus stands in Düsseldorf as a brutalist office building designed by Helmut Hentrich, Petschnigg & Partner. Construction took place between 1966 and 1971. Reinforced concrete shapes both the structure and its severe architectural expression.
A central hexagonal core contains staircases, lifts, sanitary facilities and technical installations. Three further hexagons surround it. Each unit sits one third of a floor higher or lower, while staircases connect the offset forms. Trapezoidal rooms occupy the spaces between them, serving as break rooms and individual offices. Continuous steel window bands cross the exterior, alongside escape balconies with exposed concrete parapets.
The Association of German Architects awarded the completed building a plaque in 1972. Surrounding office buildings later made the former landmark less visible from its setting. Since 1994, protected-monument status has preserved this unusual arrangement of concrete, windows and interlocking hexagons.
